You Have Communion with His Brothers?

"We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ." (1 John 1: 3)

Christians tend to use quite the word "communion" like, "Let's have fellowship"; or "Let's meet in the Hall of Communion".

- But what that word really mean?

When Acts 2:42 says that the first believers "devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship" (emphasis added), uses the Greek word koinonia, which can be translated as "communion", "partnership" or "camaraderie". It also means "generosity." So the fellowship covers all these ideas; is much more than social relations.

Anyone can have social relations.

Any people can join and form groups around their passions, whatever you want that are interested.

But the communion of which the Bible speaks is not that kind of meeting or social interaction.

It is entirely different.

People are joining to talk about the things of God.

Communion is to pray together.

It is to serve together.

It donate together.

You grow old together.

These are the ribs of communion.

And the communion with God and with His people go together.

As we know God through His Word, we will want to fellowship with other believers. The stronger your fellowship in the vertical plane, the stronger the communion in the horizontal plane. As 1 John 1: 3 says, "We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard so that you also may have fellowship with us Our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.".

If you find yourself without communion with God, will soon find themselves without communion also with other believers.

So if you want to be like one of those first believers of the first century church need not only to love God and study His Word, but also need to spend time in fellowship with His people.

That one day we can say: I have fought the good fight, I have finished my career, I have kept the faith.

2 Timothy 4: 7 It wants a prayer for your family or your life Write to us.
